What is Preservation Planning?

According to the National Park Service, preservation planning “is the rational, systematic process by which the State Historic Preservation Office develops a vision and goals for historic preservation throughout the State. The SHPO seeks to achieve that vision through its own actions and through influencing the actions of others. The vision and goals are based on an analyses of resource data and user needs.” Preservation planning a statutory requirement for all SHPOs as defined by Section 101(b)(3)(c) of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.
